ADDITIONAL RESEARCH:
JOHN JOHNSON married HANNAH MOUNTS (daughter to Caleb & Jane Mounts) on Christmas Day, December 25, 1823. They arrived in Peoria, Illinois on October 7, 1831. John rented a farm from PETER MENARD which he tended for 3 years. This farm was located above Mossville. He stayed there until 1836 when he made claim to a tract of 240 acres of land near the present site of Jubilee College, which he purchased from the government in 1837. Improvements to the farm continued until he sold the farm to Bishop Chase in 1841. Shortly after the sale in 1841, John Johnson again bought land in the amount of 200 acres in Section 13 of Kickapoo Township. He served 4 years as Lieut-Colonel of the 44th Regiment Indiana State Militia according to Indiana records.
Johnson served nearly every office in township government while in Kickapoo Township. He was elected as Justice of the Peace in the spring of 1851. By religion, he was a Baptist; as a government official, he was a staunch Democrat.
Johnson fathered 10 sons & daughters:
CRAWFORD, 11/2/1824 to 3/10/1859 -- interred at OTTO CEMETERY
RACHEL, born 1/30/1836 --- married Omer Bosworth in January 1856 --- died 1/14/1866 -- interred at OTTO CEMETERY
JOHN, born 6/6/1841, married first wife, Sarah Whittington, on 11/22/1863 (she died 6/22/1874).
John remarried, Vera Hindmarsh, on 2/13/1877. This union bore 2 unnamed children. JOHN IS INTERRED AT OTTO CEMETERY.
